Desktop client Windows Twitter User Should Use

I do everything to ease my life of Twitter. Installed products, add-ons for my favorite browser, used services which helps you living in Twitter social network. Some of them aren’t much useful as other, few of them even confuse you without an intuitive interface. Therefore, I decided to help my followers and my becoming followers to ease their life in Twitter.

First I want to discuss desktop clients I used. I started using Twhirl at first, but it wasn’t as good as I wanted it to be. The difference it gave - I used it on my desktop, not in a browser. All sections were in different tabs, the same like in default Twitter homepage. As I wasn’t so addicted to Twitter at that time, It fit me.

Then I heard about TweetDeck.

TweetDeck - Windows Desktop Client for Twitter

It works on Adobe Air platform. If you have never heard of it, don’t worry. It won’t harm your computer. Like every application running on Adobe Air, TweetDeck is very neat. The interface is very intuitive and I get accustomed it to my needs very quickly.

The biggest advantage I saw in it - you can select all needed tabs (all tweets, replies, direct messages and whatever you want else) to show right in front of you.

Also, you can group people you follow into groups. This helps you track twitters from different interest categories.

Next big thing - you can search within all tweets around a world for a specific keyword. This can be great for searching new people to follow.

If you want to talk about something everybody is talking, try Twitscoop feature. It will show you cloud of tags people are tweeting about.

That’s all the features TweetDeck has that I wanted to mention. Remember, to tweak application’s settings to determine how frequently TweetDeck should check your profile for new tweets, replies, direct messages and favorites.

P.s. before writing this post I installed TweetBot. It attracted me, because it has features like:

  • managing followers and those following;
  • tweet threading for following individual conversation.

And TweetBot team is going to add these new features:

  • auto-follow those following you
  • auto-unfollow those following you
  • tweet scheduler
  • tweet auto responder

But disliked it, because it doesn’t fit my requirements. Maybe later I will give them a chance to make me happy :)

Thanks for the insight! I also tried twhirl. It had one nice feature in that I could review who I’m following and my followers. It also had the ability to cross post my tweets to pownce and friendster. However, in my case I found the interface a bit less intuitive than TweetDeck (which I installed after reading your post). TweetDeck does not have as many features as Twhirl, but I find it simpler to use and easier to follow tweets.

On a side note, I suspect there was a security issue in my installation of twhirl as I kept getting a network security alert that it was trying to connect to some server within the aol domain. TweetDeck has not given me any such alerts.
